Here is my basic procedure for setting up a new Drupal site. I'm using Drupal 7.## and my server configuration may vary from yours, so these might not be appropriate instructions for everyone. Also, don't use the links. They're just examples!
Have you wondered how some people's blog and news stories turn up in Google's search results with their picture beside it? It's called claiming authorship, and with Drupal, It's not as difficult as you might think. Here is one way you can claim authorship in Google's search results with Drupal. If you have a GMail account, enable your Google+ profile. When you aren't logged in to Google, the link at the top left will show "+You", and it will show "+" when you are. In Google+, set a profile picture.
I've gone ahead and created a few new content types, as well as views to display them. The first is a +1 content type, which is supported by a bookmarklet that I can use to post links and snippets of interesting stories and sites that I come across on the net. The second type, which I am about to create, is called "A to B". I suppose I could put these under articles or my blog, but I often enough find myself doing random browsing and ending up in interesting places that I believe the posts will deserve a heading all their own.
