Alexis Bledel's Eyes - 1366x768 Wallpaper

Submitted by jean-paul on Wed, 05/08/2013 - 21:30

It annoys me when people sit in front of me in a lecture hall and switch from one window to another with that super-slick Mac swipe. It's appealing if you're looking at it, but the motion is distracting to other people.

In the spirit of attracting the attention of people behind me, I used Gimp to modify an image of Alexis Bledel that I found on the internets. Click on the image to see full size. I hope you enjoy it!

Custom QR Code

I made a custom QR code for my site, and one for a local business. It's my first and second attempts at modding QR codes and the second one reminds me of old video games. Very old.

Logo Design Proposal - GIMP 2.6

Submitted by jean-paul on Sun, 11/04/2012 - 01:09

I did this logo for a local gourmet coffee roaster business. I'm not sure if they'll use it, but I thought it looked nice. I might change it so that it looks like a piece of paper by enlarging it and adding a drop shadow, maybe some skew? I've never done that before, so I can only imagine how it's supposed to be done. It might even be ok if I create a frame in a layer mask and blend the outside edges in to transparency.

Gimp Animations for Google Plus Avatar or Awesome Ubuntu Logo

Submitted by jean-paul on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 00:12

I tinkered with Gimp for a bit, and after coming to the realization that trying to animate layers with transparency so that underlying content is visible would be impossible, I decided on a gravel texture to animate behing the spinning logo. I thought maybe I would draw a kind of harness attached to the Ubuntu logo, and connecting to something differently in the banner. I'll keep the intersecting lines stable, so that even if the 2 animations lose sync, the 2 lines will connect.

Fun with Gimp

I like to play with the Gimp, image editing software for Linux, BSD, Mac,Solaris, and Windows. I don't have any experience with Photoshop, but I've heard people say that you can do pretty close to anything in the Gimp that you can in Photoshop, except that there are a lot more plugins for the latter. Here are some of the images that I've done over the years, in no particular order. Edit: I added a few that were done in Blender as well. I hope it doesn't slow the loading too much!
